Last weekend I brought out the track and started laying it out on the deck. Seeing it on the deck is certainly different than seeing it on paper. The goal this year is pretty much just getting a simple layout going.
The layout will consist of one large circuit with one siding that splits to store two trains. Hopefully I have enough track to cover the deck. For some reason I thought I had more track than I do. I'm convinced that there's another bin of track somewhere. A few curves here and there will fill things out. The track also needs a good cleaning. Anchoring the track is still a problem but I'll figure something out.
The Christmas Train has had all new lighting installed, powered by a rechargeable battery pack. It still isn't as easy to swap out the battery pack as I would like. Next year I hope to completely re-do the gondola car which has the battery pack and led 'show' lights. The wooden box containing everything installed in the gondola is weather worn and needs painting. I will either find plastic material for fabricating a new box or possibly 3D print a new box.
All of the trains are in dire need of cleaning and lubrication. I'll find time for that over the next few days
So today I will finish laying out the track, running and testing the electrical and cleaning the track.
