It's been about a year we moved into the new house. Periodically I think about plans for our garden railway.
Last year was the first year in decades that we did not have trains at Christmas. That won’t happen again this year. Although we’re not ready for a permanent setup I have pretty much finished the plans for the Christmas deck setup.
The new deck has some challenges to be considered. 1. - The patio set, grille and deck box need to stay. 2. - The dogs need to be able to cross the layout. 3. - I can’t just drill screws into the deck to hold the track in place.
1. - I designed the layout to go around or behind the obstacles. It will block the view of the train but there’s nowhere to put the stuff.
2. - The dogs will hopefully step or jump over the tracks. All of the buildings are being set up out of their path to the yard so ‘fingers crossed’.
3. - I am hoping to design a little do-dad that I can print on the 3D printer that will lock into the spaces between the deck boards that I can attach the tracks to.
Although Christmas is about 6 weeks away I hope to start laying out the track immediately after Thanksgiving.
