New House
We moved into our new house about a month ago. It’s been a whirlwind of activity that isn’t anywhere near over. So busy that we did not have trains for Christmas. Not good.
What is good is the new house is on an acre lot with plenty of space for an outdoor layout. The bad news is there is plenty of space for an outdoor layout.
I’ve wanted to build a permanent layout for a long time. I’ve designed layout after layout. None have given me the ‘that’s it!’ feeling. I look at web page after web page of layouts and ideas. There are some pretty fantastic garden railways out there.
I have made some preliminary notes on what I want. I don’t want a giant layout but then again I don’t want anything so small that it’s boring. Whatever the size, I want to design something that can be expanded without it seeming awkward.
I have decided on a layout that is capable of running two trains simultaneously. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
I plan on concentrating on two ‘town’ areas. Buildings and scenery are time consuming. Both will be small. Here and there will be a few ‘scenes’.
Power will be conventional DC. Control is the only thing I hope to be elegant and very cool.
I have my work cut out for me. My goal is to have the basic layout running for Christmas next year.
